Tantalus information and history
Mount Tantalus' peak reaches to 2,004 feet above sea level. Tantalus Drive and Round Top Drive connect together to make a long road through the neighborhood. On the west side of the loop, Tantalus Drive also connects to Mott Smith Drive and then Makiki Heights Drive to get back down to Makiki Street.
The roadway has been placed on the state Register of Historic Places in an effort to preserve its original character. The roadway was constructed in the early 1900's and was paved in 1937. The entire loop measures 10 miles. Tantalus Drive and Roundtop Drive are a favorite route for bicyclists and runners who want a tough workout.
