This is Oahu's "Second City" - designated so by former Mayor Frank Fasi in the 1980's. The intent was to find a new place for Oahu to grow, since much of the "town" area on Oahu was already developed.
In recent years Kapolei has grown significantly. Most homes and townhomes in the area are fairly new compared to other neighborhoods on Oahu.
Employment in Kapolei is on the rise. Companies such as The Honolulu Advertiser, Bank of Hawaii, Home Depot, Tesoro and Campbell Estate are nearby. For fun, there's Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, the Corn Maze (seasonal) and a large movie theatre. New stores coming up include Kapolei Costco and Hawaii's first Target Store, at Kapolei Commons.
