Construction of Kalama Valley homes began in the 1970's and continued strongly into the 1980's. By that time the majority of Kalama Valley's usable land had been built upon. A few homes were constructed subsequently as owners developed houselots.
Kalama Valley has a small shopping center and a park. Sandy Beach is a short drive away. Roads in and around Kalama Valley are generally wide and good for bicycling or running.

Kalama Valley map and how to get there
From Honolulu, take the H-1 freeway eastbound and continue as it merges onto Kalanianaole Highway (72). Turn left at Lunalilo Home Road and turn right at Hawaii Kai Drive, up the infamous "Heartbreak Hill" named after runners and bicyclists.
Upon reaching the intersection of Hawaii Kai Drive and Kealahou Street, make a left turn and you have reached Kalama Valley.
From Kailua and Waimanalo, drive east on Kalanianaole Highway. The road will curve around the east side of Oahu and turn to the south and then west. As you approach Sandy Beach, look for a lone intersection with a stop light. Make a right turn there, at Kealahou Street. Drive straight up Kealahou to access Kalama Valley.
