Kailua homes
Kailua is a friendly town on the windward side of Oahu, a short drive from Honolulu. Kailua has one of the best beaches around, Kailua Beach park. People love to relax in the sand, take a swim and maybe kayak out to the small islands in the bay. It's okay to bring your dogs to this beach, please make sure to keep them leashed and clean up after them.
After going to the beach, enjoy a nice meal at Buzz's Steak House, or drive back to Kailua Town for more eating choices including Thai, Italian and Korean food. Near the intersection of North Kalaheo Avenue and Mokapu Boulevard, try Pinky's - another great restaurant and local landmark.

Castle Hospital is conveniently located at the intersection of the Pali Highway and Kalanianaole Highway. Other health care providers are located in Kailua town.

Kailua and Kailua-Kona are two different places
For those new to Hawaii, we'd like to explain something: There's more than one Kailua! On Oahu, we have Kailua, located on the windward side (where the tradewinds normally blow onshore) of the island. On the Big Island (aka the island of Hawaii), we have Kailua-Kona, on the west side of the island and a popular destination for travelers. It wouldn't be surprising to find out there's another Kailua, somewhere on another island.
Origin of the name "Kailua"
Kailua translates to "two seas" - Kawainui Marsh and Kaelepulu Pond (aka Enchanted Lake). Early Hawaiians used these two bodies of water as freshwater fish ponds. Kawainui translates to "the big water."
