In December, 2006 the Honolulu City Council voted to move forward with a rapid transit system for Oahu.  This will be a big benefit to residents in the Ewa area.  Construction of homes from the late 1980's to now in Ewa Beach has increased the area's population and traffic significantly.  When the rapid transit system is completed, Ewa Beach residents can look forward to an alternative method for commuting to work.

Years ago, residents considered neighborhoods like Hawaii Kai to be too far away from downtown Honolulu.  With improved transportation routes those areas became more desireable.  Upon completion of the rapid transit system, Ewa Beach could become the new Hawaii Kai.
